Fatal accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claims four lives

A tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of four individuals and left nine others injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State. The incident occurred on Sunday around 8:30 p.m., with preliminary investigations pointing to over-speeding and a tyre burst as the primary causes.
Mrs. Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, released a statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the crash. The vehicle, marked FKJ 570 YE, was carrying thirteen passengers, including five men and eight women. Tragically, two men and two women succumbed to their injuries, while three men and six women sustained varying degrees of injuries.
"The suspected causes of the lone crash were speed violation and a tyre burst, which led to loss of control," Okpe stated. The injured victims were promptly transported to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical attention, while the deceased were taken to FOS Morgue in Ipara.
In response to the accident, Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin issued a strong appeal to motorists, urging them to exercise caution and prioritize safety. He emphasized the importance of staying focused while driving and conducting regular vehicle checks to identify and address potential defects. Fasakin also advised drivers to adhere to the designated speed limits for different vehicle categories on the roads.
Furthermore, the Sector Commander called upon all fleet operators to install speed limit devices in their vehicles and to make safety a paramount concern in their operations. The FRSC continues to investigate the incident and reinforce safety measures to prevent future accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
