The Government says the 10 Year Health Plan for England ‘seizes the opportunities provided by new technologies, medicines, and innovations to deliver better care for all patients – wherever they live and whatever they earn – and better value for taxpayers.’
According to the government, it is making 3 big shifts to how the NHS works:
However, critics in the adult social care sector have criticised the perceived lack of provision for adult social care.

Nichola Stefanou, CEO of Healthcare Management Trust. said: “We know the NHS is struggling and reform is desperately needed. The proposal to move to more community-based services is positive.
“As a care provider reaching marginalised communities, we know the benefits this can bring to patients and their families. However, as a social care provider, it is alarming that this important sector is neglected in the plan.
“The NHS relies on social care and vice versa. You cannot have one without the other, and to exclude social care from the 10-year plan is not only short-sighted, it is potentially dangerous, as any changes will place more pressure on an over-stretched, under-funded service.
“If you reform the NHS, you must reform social care at the same time. The government must stop seeing them as separate and address the delicate balance between the NHS and social care, prioritise funding and transformation for both, so we can build a system that works for everyone.”
