EuroLeague Playoffs: Second Week Preview

The 2025 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague playoffs are underway, with several teams on the brink of the Final Four. Three series stand at 2-0, while one is tied. Olympiacos Piraeus, AS Monaco, and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul are each one win away from the Abu Dhabi Final Four after securing two victories against Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Paris Basketball, respectively. Meanwhile, Anadolu Efes Istanbul managed a Game 2 victory over Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, thanks to Shane Larkin's performance.

Paris Basketball vs. Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul:

Paris has displayed contrasting performances in the first two games against Fenerbahce. In Game 1, they led late but ultimately fell short. Game 2 saw Fenerbahce dominate, leaving Paris trailing significantly. Despite Fenerbahce's strong position, Paris is known for its resilience and could perform better at home, particularly with improved three-point shooting. Fenerbahce, however, has consistently outperformed Paris this season, holding a 4-0 record. Their ability to contain Paris's offense has been key, and they aim to close out the series in France.

Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens vs. Anadolu Efes Istanbul:

Panathinaikos' star player, Kendrick Nunn, has faced challenges against Anadolu Efes's defense in the first two games. Despite averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 assists, his shooting efficiency has been subpar. While this didn't cost them Game 1, Efes capitalized in Game 2 to tie the series. If Nunn can elevate his performance in Istanbul, Panathinaikos's chances will improve significantly. Shane Larkin believes this Efes team is highly talented, and they aim to prove it. Players like Jordan Nwora, Darius Thompson, and Elijah Bryant need to contribute more to counter Panathinaikos's expected response.

Olympiacos Piraeus vs. Real Madrid:

Olympiacos is up 2-0 against Real Madrid and seeks to finish the series in Spain. A key factor will be Evan Fournier's shooting performance. After a strong regular season, Fournier struggled in the first two games. However, he previously had a high-scoring game in Madrid, and a similar performance could help Olympiacos secure a sweep. Real Madrid, known for its strong defense, has struggled offensively, scoring low points in the first two games. They've also committed too many turnovers. Real needs significant offensive improvement to extend the series.

AS Monaco vs. FC Barcelona:

AS Monaco has been the most dominant team in the playoffs, showcasing balanced and effective basketball to lead 2-0 against Barcelona. They won both games by double digits, controlling the second halves and averaging high scores. Monaco's strong assist numbers and multiple players scoring in double figures reflect their well-rounded system. Barcelona needs to improve their defensive effort to stay alive in the series, particularly after collapsing in the second halves of the first two games. A stronger defensive performance, fueled by the home crowd, is essential for their survival.
