Kariuki was confirmed dead on Monday, June 30, and was shot during the June 17 protests.
An anti-riot police officer shot him at close range when people were protesting against Albert Ojwang's death.
The incident was well-captured on a video, which showed how the masks vendor went down after being shot in the head.

Monday, June 30, at 3:15 pm marked the death of Kariuki, who had been receiving treatment in Kenyatta National Hospital's ICU.
After his death was announced publicly, Eric met Kariuki's father, Jonah Kariuki.
He assured the bereaved family of his support.
"We will stand with them. We will mourn with them and offer comfort to them. We will pray and walk with them. We will celebrate him as a hero and remember his name," Eric said.
Captioning the video, he wrote:
"Condoled with the Father and Family of Boniface Kariuki. We will pray with them and mourn with them. We will remember his Name."

What did Charles Owino say about Boniface Kariuki's death?
Elsewhere, former police spokesperson Charles Owino angered Kenyans with reckless claims about Kariuki.
Owino defended the police and cautioned against the depiction of officers as weak, even in dangerous scenarios.
He claimed that Kariuki had insulted the police.
