Edge's Role in DC Universe Often Gets Shadowed by The Rock and John Cena

Published 1 week ago4 minute read

Edge has always been the yin to John Cena’s yang. ‘The Ultimate Opportunist’ was a legendary heel and gave us moments we will never forget. As the bad guy, he was a heat-seeking missile. Before his first retirement, though, he turned face and had a very respectable run. After that, he decided to turn to acting (like his predecessors).

Adam Copeland/Edge’s acting career has gone under the radar, unlike John Cena’s or The Rock’s. He usually stars in straight-to-DVD films. Edge also acts in supporting character/cameo roles on TV shows such as The Vikings. No one even remembers that he had a role in a DC production before even the Rock and John Cena.

While the Rock and John Cena were busy doing other stuff, Edge was cast as a meta-human named Atom Smasher in CW’s Flash series. This episode was broadcast in 2015.

The character appeared as a one-off in episode one of season two. He died in the episode itself, and that was it. It wasn’t very memorable, but wrestling fans found it pretty notable during that time.

Yet, he was the first wrestler to play a role in a DC production. To be fair, not many remember this series, and his role was a bit low-profile (just like Cody Rhodes’ at Arrow).

John Cena played the Peacemaker in a high-profile show while The Rock was Black Adam in a very high-budget movie. Compared to that. Edge’s role was never going to be remembered much.

Edge also played a recurring role in a Syfy show called Haven. He appeared in 42 episodes. Then, he appeared on Vikings, which also had some popularity back then. Now, he is part of the Disney+ show Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He plays Ares- the God of War and has a recurring role here, as well.

To fans, though, his most memorable role was in a movie called Money Plane. The movie was total B-movie slop and was the subject of many a commentary video. People have enjoyed the movie ironically. The movie has some of the most ridiculous dialogues and is so funny that it ends up being a good watch.

Adam Copeland knows he has more days in the ring behind him than in front of him and has explained why it’s unlikely that he’ll sign another AEW deal.

The last time Adam Copeland appeared on AEW television was when he was attacked by his former friends FTR following their tag team loss at Dynasty. After the vicious attack by Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler, Cope was taken away on a stretcher, and he hasn’t been seen on AEW TV since.

Edge said that he won’t be able to wrestle 200 days a year because of the number of injuries he has had. He said that it takes him a week to recover from a match.

I’ll have a match and it’ll take me a good week to finally start walking normal. I’ve realized now, I’m 51 years old, I figure I have until maybe 53, the end of this contract, and then it’s probably time to call it a day and get out while I can still limp away [laughs]. Lick my wounds and do a whole lot of yoga after.

It feels like we are seeing the end of a legendary career. Edge has wrestled for more than three decades for various promotions, such as the WWE, where he spent most of his career. As the ‘Rated-R Superstar’, every kid on planet Earth hated his guts. His tag team run with Christian will also be remembered as they were one of the revolutionaries of the division.

Edge will probably clear his wrestling schedule to do more movies and TV shows. It will be very interesting to see what he does next in this space, and we hope he gets a big Hollywood role one day.
