DUI suspect arrested in crash that killed juvenile in Riverside County
Authorities have arrested a DUI suspect in a crash that killed a juvenile in Riverside County Friday.
Matthew Thomas Jackson, 37, a Temecula resident, was charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, and reckless driving causing injury, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 26, 2024, deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of Butterfield Stage Road and Channel Street in Temecula at around 7 p.m. One of the vehicles had sped through a red light, resulting in the collision.
Witnesses told deputies Jackson left his car and fled the scene on foot. The victims were transported to a local hospital with moderate to serious injuries at the time.
Jackson was located nearby and taken into custody before he was later released.
Two weeks after the crash, a juvenile who was still hospitalized died from his injuries.

On Dec. 30, 2024, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office filed additional charges against Jackson and an arrest warrant was issued.
Authorities began searching for Jackson and eventually located him on Jan. 17, 2025, at a home on the 8000 block of Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Cois Byrd Detention Center where he remains on $1 million bail. Authorities did not release the victim’s name.
