A coalition meeting attended by prominent figures including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023, Peter Obi; and former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, was disrupted by some of the delegates.
The disruption occurred on Sunday at the Abuja Continental Hotel, where the National Political Consultative Group (North) had convened the meeting.
Tensions reportedly escalated when a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, announced a delegate to represent Jigawa State.
This was said to have prompted delegates from Jigawa to storm the stage and intercept the individual from speaking.
They insisted that the individual would represent them.
Following a series of interventions and appeals, order was eventually restored.
In a bid to calm the situation, son of Sule Lamido, former Jigawa governor, Mustapha Lamido, and another delegate were chosen to speak on behalf of the state.
