DP urges Kenyans to avoid politicians bearing empty slogans
The DP said the time to feed Kenyans with cheap talk and retrogressive politics is over, affirming the government’s sole focus on development, peaceful coexistence and empowerment of those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
“Kenyans are more enlightened than before. You cannot feed them useless slogans in the hope they will support you. This time, they will demand to be shown what you did for them when you were in power not to bait them with useless slogans and incitement along tribal lines,” he noted.
Speaking on Saturday during an Empowerment event for women, youth Saccos and groups in Masinga Constituency, Machakos County, Prof. Kindiki indicated that what matters to citizens is what leaders have done to change their lives when they were in power, not the length of service.
“Those engaging in pointless talk of who will serve which number of terms do not know what they are talking about. That is petty and cheap. No one knows tomorrow. Serve the people fully even if you are elected for a day because you never know what will happen tomorrow,” he added.
The Deputy President defended the countrywide empowerment engagements pointing at their transformative nature for owners of micro and small businesses at the grassroots.
He said it is not the only initiative being pursued by the administration citing ongoing empowerment programs to uplift mama mboga and boda boda operators among others.
Some of these are the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) and Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) programs.
“Those who think they have enough are trying to soil our empowerment efforts because they don’t appreciate initiatives to uplift the lives of Kenyans who are in need of support.
As leaders, it’s our responsibility to support those in need. If you are opposed to it, kindly let us do it because it is our conviction to do so,” DP stated.
As he enumerated comprehensive development initiatives being rolled out across the country, he assured Kenyans that no part of the country will be denied projects because they did not vote for the ruling government.
He listed multiple projects being implemented in Machakos including completion of stalled roads, expansion of electricity connection at a cost of Sh1.4 billion, construction of 15 new modern markets among others.
“This government will serve everyone irrespective of how they voted. All regions will benefit from roads, electricity, water and markets among others because we are focused on development across the country,” he said, revealing he will push for additional allocation to connect more people to electricity in Masinga.
Further, the DP said Taifa Care has picked up and is working after teething issues were dealt with. He said 23 million people have already registered, urging more Kenyans to follow suit.
“SHA is one of the most transformative health programs to ever be done in this country. It is working and we will continue to make it better,” he said.
