Discipline key to productive work environment - IUO registrar

Published 7 hours ago2 minute read

The registrar, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Friday Benji Bakare, on Monday, harped on the need for effective leadership and staff discipline to achieve success in an organization.

Bakare, who spoke while delivering the Valecditory lecture organised by Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), in his honour titled, “the role of University administrators I’m fostering discipline in the Workplace: A practitioners Bird’s-Eye view” emphasised the need to align individual goals with organisational goals through employee discipline to provide good leadership.

Bakare said leadership is a crucial factor in the success of all organizations.

“It is obvious that without a cohesive and disciplined workspace in the university, the realization of these noble strategic goals would be a mirage,” he said.

“This, therefore, impels the need to align individual goals with organizational goals through employee self-discipline while administrators continually provide good leadership.”

He noted that the success or failure of a leader depends on the cohesiveness of his or her team and how they bond to achieve set objectives.

“It is on this note that it becomes necessary to examine the symbiotic relationship between leadership and staff discipline, which is crucial for fostering a productive and harmonious workplace,” Bakare said.

Bakare added that effective administrators build trust and respect with employees.

According to him, when employees feel respected, they are more likely to adhere to organisational rules and standards, fostering a disciplined work environment.

The Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, said a harmonious and balanced work environment in which all stakeholders observe laid down rules and regulations is possible when staff indiscipline is reduced to the barest minimum.
