Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Center and as part of the “Your Comment” initiative and the “Safe Road 2” campaign, has released a video highlighting accidents caused by sudden swerving and failure to adhere to mandatory lanes (ensuring the road is clear before overtaking).

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police urged drivers to avoid sudden swerving, refrain from unsafe overtaking, and always check that the road is clear before changing lanes. It also emphasised the dangers of reckless lane-switching and the importance of using the correct lane when transitioning to another road.

Abu Dhabi Police warned that sudden swerving is a serious traffic violation under the Traffic and Road Law, carrying a fine of Dh1,000 and four traffic points.

Over the years, severe accidents caused by sudden swerving have resulted in injuries and fatalities. To curb this issue, authorities enforce Article 86, which fines light vehicle drivers Dh400 for failing to adhere to mandatory lanes.

The Ministry of Interior, through the Federal Traffic Council, has launched multiple awareness campaigns about the dangers of sudden swerving, as part of broader efforts to enhance road safety.

As part of its awareness campaign, Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Center, recently aired real-life accident footage under the “Your Comment” initiative, showcasing the dangers of sudden swerving.
