Dennis Muthui: Mum of Man Shot Dead in Majengo Weeps at City Mortuary Awaiting Autopsy
In a post shared on X by human rights activist Hussein Khalid, Muthui’s heartbroken mother, sister, and other family members were captured wailing and crying uncontrollably at City Mortuary.
The family sat in the mortuary compound, waiting for an autopsy to be conducted on their deceased kin.
"I got a phone call that my son was shot dead and I had to rush and see him to confirm. True to what they said, Deno has left us. Why couldn’t they have just shot his legs and spared his life?” said the mum amid tears.
She further stated that the 26-year-old was her family's hope as she had raised him and his brother through hardships.
“Dennis has left us. He did not wrong anyone, he has left a very young child, what will I do without my son? He was my helper," she added.
Residents of Majengo staged demonstrations following the death of Kamukunji High School Form Three student Ibrahim Ramadhan.
The 17-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead by police officers while returning from evening prayers on Tuesday, March 4.
The irate locals demanded justice for Ibrahim and set a police vehicle ablaze, damaging other property during the unrest.
Police officers were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the angry crowd, leading to several hours of running battles with residents.
Khalid reported that Muthui was shot in the stomach during the demonstrations and later succumbed to his injuries.
Reports indicate that at least four people are feared dead in the Majengo clashes, with many calling for swift action from authorities.
