Delhi Budget 2025 Live Updates: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is currently presenting the Delhi Budget 2025 in the Assembly. She announced the Delhi Budget 2025-26, with a record total of Rs 1 lakh crore, which is a 31.5% increase from last year. Key highlights of the budget include Rs 28,000 crore for infrastructure, Rs 9,000 crore for Yamuna cleaning, Rs 1,000 crore for transport in Delhi-NCR, Rs 5,100 crore for women’s welfare, and Rs 2,144 crore for healthcare among others. This is the first Delhi Budget under the BJP in 26 years, after the party’s victory over AAP in the recent elections.

Gupta had commenced the Delhi budget session on Monday with a special Kheer Ceremony. She had tabled the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), which showed that the DTC is facing financial losses and also have less number of buses. BJP MLA Harish Khurana pointed out that although AAP promised to add 11,000 new buses between 2013 and 2015, the number of buses actually dropped from 4,344 in 2015 to 3,937. He also claimed that the corporation’s total losses grew to Rs 8,498.33 crore, an increase of Rs 5,000 crore during AAP’s time in power. Delhi minister Pankaj Singh on Monday said that there will soon be a White paper on AAP government’s tenure. But will the white paper be out today? Keep watching this space to find out.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced Rs 500 crore for decentralised sewage plant so that no sewage water goes in Yamuna River. She said, "Yaumna River has been turned into a 'nala' due to lack of effort and intention of previous AAP government. Yamuna cleaning is an important part of our Budget. It is our lifeline."

Gupta announced Rs 696 crore for development in slum clusters. She also announced Rs 500 crore for sewage treatment plant and Rs 250 crore for water treatment plant. She also said that the Delhi government has ordered 31 Supersucker machines for more clean water in the National Capital.

Under the previous government, problems like DTC issues, DUSIB, dirty water, broken sewers, and damaged roads became common in Delhi. All departments were in loss during the previous administration.

This Budget Session is important because it comes right after the 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly election, where the BJP regained power after a long period of time.

The day before, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a report from the CAG on the DTC in the Assembly. The report pointed out poor management and financial losses, which led to criticism of the previous AAP government.

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Monday accused former CM Arvind Kejriwal of corruption after the CAG report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) revealed financial mismanagement, including the closure of bus routes, rising costs, and increased grants. Sirsa called for a thorough investigation into these issues.

Leader of Opposition and former CM Atishi called for a discussion on the CAG report to take place on Wednesday, stating that the opposition needed time to properly review the findings.

Last year, the AAP government introduced the 2024-25 Budget, initially at Rs 76,000 crore. However, it was later increased to Rs 77,000 crore. According to PTI, sources within the government have suggested that the 2025-26 Budget is expected to surpass budget of Rs 80,000 crore.

Chief Minister Gupta had earlier remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the BJP is presenting the Delhi Budget after 27 years. She had compared it to Lord Ram's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood on Monday hinted that electricity prices may go up, explaining that this is due to a Rs 27,000 crore debt left by the previous AAP government with power distribution companies (Discoms). In response to a question in the Delhi Assembly yesterday about the possible increase in electricity rates, Sood said that Discoms are allowed to raise prices to recover the unpaid debt. He also pointed out that during the previous government’s time, the Delhi High Court had instructed DERC to set a tariff order, but the administration did not protect the public’s interests. He added that AAP had left a Rs 27000 crore debt of regulatory assets with discoms.

This year, Delhi is estimated to get the budget allocation of over Rs 80,000 crore. The Budget is expected to focuses on improving Delhi's infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tackling pollution. Cleaning the Yamuna could also be one of the agendas that might be discussed.

Former Delhi CM Atishi criticised the BJP-led government on Monday for not presenting the survey ahead of the budget. Mocking BJP's kheer ceremony, Atishi said that the Delhi's budget is not made by preparing kheer, but is based on economic figures.
