Death Stranding Game to Become Anime Movie with Emmy-Nominated Writer

Hideo Kojima's critically acclaimed video game, Death Stranding, is being adapted into an animated feature film, with Aaron Guzikowski, known for his work on HBO's 'Raised by Wolves' and the film 'Prisoners,' set to write an original story within the game's post-apocalyptic universe. The project was jointly announced by Kojima Productions and animation studio Line Mileage, and is specifically designed to cater to adult audiences, drawing parallels to recent mature animated adaptations such as the 'Predator' anthology on Hulu and the upcoming 'John Wick' prequel.
Guzikowski expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating his admiration for the "creatively freeing, beautifully dark and yet hopeful" world of Death Stranding. He looks forward to crafting new narratives within Kojima's "fertile, mind-bending universe." Line Mileage brings a strong portfolio to the adaptation, having previously worked on successful mature-rated game adaptations like 'Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft' and 'Castlevania.'
It is important to note that this animated movie is a distinct project from the live-action 'Death Stranding' film, which is also currently in development. A24 is producing the live-action version, with Michael Sarnoski, director of 'A Quiet Place: Day One,' attached as both writer and director. The original 2019 game starred Norman Reedus as a courier traversing a devastated America following supernatural events that threaten humanity's existence. The game also featured notable performances from Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guillermo del Toro.
Hideo Kojima himself had previously hinted at both film adaptations earlier this year during an interview with Vogue Japan, confirming that he was simultaneously working on both cinematic projects, demonstrating his commitment to expanding the 'Death Stranding' narrative across different media.
