Dawson Springs couple loses home in flood

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (WEHT) — Although the rain has stopped, many communities are still dealing with what some are calling “historic” flooding.

In Dawson Springs, the water got so high it forced a couple to evacuate their home.

Bobby Parish says water began slowly rising Friday night. By Saturday morning, water was already up to their front porch.

“I looked through the window and I could just see a reflection of the water from inside,” says Parish. “And I knew it was gone.”

The couple had to say goodbye to their home of over 10 years and seek higher ground, leaving behind memories and heirlooms.

“I barely survived with my car,” says Parish. “I had to park it up the hill and I had to go back and get our three dogs over the water and safely into the car. It was just a big ordeal.”

At one point, Parish says the water was up to his chest. Inside the home, several inches of water flowed into the kitchen. The couple says they put items on counters and shelves to salvage what they could.

In the meantime, Parish says he and his wife are staying with family members in Robards.
