Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has described his recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as highly productive, saying it is expected to bring tangible benefits to the state, particularly in road construction and infrastructure development.

Mutfwang, who met the president in Lagos on May 29 during activities marking their two years in office—a build-up to the June 12 Democracy Day celebration—said the focus now should be on collaboration and national progress rather than political rivalry.

Speaking on Thursday during the commissioning of four new projects including the second phase of 20 new metro buses in Jos to alleviate the state’s transport challenges following fuel subsidy removal to mark his second year in office, the governor said the initiative is part of efforts to cushion the effects of increased transportation costs on residents.

“I recently met with President Tinubu in Lagos, and I am happy to report that the reconstruction of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road has been listed as his fourth legacy project,” Mutfwang said.

“This is not the time for political divisions. We must set politics aside and focus on development. So, on behalf of all of us in government, today is a day of joy as we present these buses for public use.”

The governor noted that President Tinubu, upon assuming office, had charged all levels of government to take urgent steps to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

“In response, we decided that one of the most effective ways to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy removal was to invest in the transport sector and return the subsidy directly to the people,” he said.

In addition to the bus initiative, Mutfwang also commissioned other projects, including a laboratory, paediatrics ward, and office complex at Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos. He also inaugurated a one-storey administrative block and the refurbished Joshua Dariye Hall at Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi–Jos Campus.
