CSOs must speak out against politically motivated prosecutions - Haruna Mohammed
Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has condemned what he describes as a dangerous trajectory under the Mahama-led government, calling on civil society, human rights advocates, and the media to speak up before the situation escalates.
Speaking in response to the recent arrest and bail conditions imposed on the former CEO of the National Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hannan, and his wife on on Sunday June 29, Haruna Mohammed criticised what he sees as politically motivated actions that threaten the country’s stability.
“I think that the government is on a path of destruction, and the human rights people, the civil society, and the media have to wake up,” he said.
He added: “What the NDC is doing will definitely plunge this country into a chaotic situation.”
He expressed concern over the bail conditions—GH¢60 million for Mr. Hannan and GH¢30 million for his wife—describing them as excessive and a covert means of detention.
Haruna also accused the President of turning a blind eye to these developments, warning that continued silence could embolden further abuses of power.
