Patna: A married couple lost their lives after being hit by a moving train on the
Patna-Bakhtiyarpur main line
under the Danapur rail division on Sunday. The incident occurred near Hardas Bigha station in the morning. Locals found the bodies on the railway track and alerted the
Government Railway Police
(GRP).
The victims were identified as Valmiki Sahu (40) and his wife, Kusum Devi (35). The couple had alighted from a train at Khusrupur station and were walking along the railway tracks towards their village, Govindpur, when they were struck by a goods train.
Locals spotted the bodies near pole numbers 515/5 and 515/7 and informed the railway police. A GRP team, led by officer-in-charge Manoj Kumar, reached the spot and launched an investigation.
"Initially, the identities of the victims could not be determined, but later, the local police managed to retrieve information from a damaged cellphone found at the scene, which helped identify the couple. Valmiki was a trained construction worker in Patna. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are on," said GRP station incharge Manoj Kumar.
The incident left the village in mourning with family members and relatives grieving the sudden loss of the couple.
