 From Danjuma Michael, Katsina
Executive Chairman of Bakori Local Council of Katsina State, Aminu Dan-Hamidu, yesterday, collapsed at his inauguration. Dan-Hamidu, who is said to be asthmatic, was elected last month along with 33 other chairmen on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

The Karkanda Stadium, which served as the inauguration venue, had come alive, as important guests were being awaited to arrive.  Dan-Hamidu and his colleagues were barely on the podium for their oath of office and oath of allegiance when he collapsed on the stage minutes after, with medics rushing to attend to him. He was later hospitalised, but his condition was not certain as of press time.

Governor Dikko Radda reiterated his administration’s commitment to the full implementation of statewide autonomy for local government.   He warned the new chairmen against absenteeism, advising them to make judicious use of public funds for the socio-economic development of their respective councils.

“Our administration is fully committed to the implementation of the local government autonomy in all the 34 local government areas across the state.

“I urge you to approach your responsibilities with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Remember that public service is not about personal gain.

“Corruption, inefficiency, and negligence will not be tolerated under my watch. We must work together to restore the dignity of our local government system and ensure its efficiency,” the governor added.

On his part, APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, lauded the governor for a successful council poll that saw the election of 34 chairmen and 361 councillors.  He charged the chairmen to be accountable.
