Constitution Review Committee hits 3rd month of public engagement - Hosts youth today - Graphic Online
The committee has so far held 12 thematic stakeholder engagements, five identifiable interest group engagements and eight eminent person engagements, all aimed at gathering views and proposals for constitutional amendments.
These engagements have covered a wide range of topics, including lands and natural resources, local government and decentralisation, public services, independent constitutional bodies, human rights, among others.
The committee has also interacted with various groups, including business and labour organisations, academia, security services and the media.
The eminent people the committee has engaged so far include President John Dramani Mahama; former President J.A. Kufuor; Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; former Speaker of Parliament; Prof. Mike Ocquaye; former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo; former Council of State member, Sam Okudzeto; the Chairman, Committee of Experts that produced the draft of the 1992 Constitution, Nana Dr S.K.B. Asante; a former Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Nana Ato Dadzie, and Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, a former Minister in the Rawlings administration.
The committee said it has planned to engage further with other eminent people.
The committee will today, Monday, May 19, 2025, engage with the youth across the country on X Space (formerly Twitter) at 7pm for their perspectives on the ongoing review process.
In the coming weeks, the committee plans to hold zonal public engagements in major cities across the country, including Accra, Kumasi, Wa, Bolgatanga, Tamale, Sunyani, Ho, and Cape Coast.
An online engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora is also in the pipeline.
The CRC, in a Facebook post, urged the citizenry to participate in the process by sending their written submissions to [email protected].
The committee's efforts aim to ensure that the constitution reflects the aspirations and values of the Ghanaian people.
By engaging with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, the committee seeks to gather diverse perspectives and recommendations for constitutional reform.
