Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi Hospitalised In Delhi With Stomach Issue, Here's What We Know!
Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi has been admitted in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for a gastric ailment, confirmed the hospital in a statement today. Gandhi is being kept under observation at the hospital's gastroenterology department.
The recent hospitalisation is barely a couple of weeks since Gandhi, who is 78 years old, underwent an MRI scan at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital in Shimla last month. She was admitted to the Shimla unit from her private residence in Chharabra with restlessness. While IGMC doctors did document her blood pressure as "marginally higher than normal," they assured she was "normal and stable" after what was described as a routine checkup for "some minor ailments."
Her continued hospitalisation in Delhi has raised concern among party cadres and political analysts. Insiders in the party confirm that though her condition is under close watch, the hospital has so far not released a detailed medical bulletin regarding her condition.
This is the second time this year Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for a stomach issue; in a February visit, she was observed for a day by a gastroenterology expert for the same reasons.
The health of Gandhi has been a public controversy recurring from time to time. According to reports, in September 2022, she traveled to the United States for a rescheduled medical consultation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During her visit, in which her son and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accompanied her.
