Ojwang, who died in police custody a month ago, was laid to rest at his father's compound in Homa Bay County in an emotional ceremony attended by thousands of people.

The blogger's casket was draped in Manchester United and the Kenyan flags, which were not removed even after his body was lowered to the ground.

The burial of the Kenyan flag with Ojwang's casket has ignited a myriad of opinions online. One faction opined that it has always been deemed illegal to bury one with the Kenyan flag.

However, others opined that the circumstances of Albert's death in an unjust manner allowed him to be buried with the Kenyan flag.

Here are some of the comments from the online debate:

Kimaru Cherop said:

"I think it's a crime to bury the flag since it's a symbol of national unity."

Nelson Kipkirui Arap Rono

"As Gen-Zs, we do what we want. Kenya is not protecting us anymore, that's why he was buried with the flag."

Abdul Karim said:

"The logic here is simple: the flag symbolises the sovereignty of the Kenyan. In other words, no Kenyans, no Kenyan flag, and this must not be misconstrued as being disrespectful and or belittling the importance of our national flag."

Peter Maucha said:

"Kenya is for all of us, and burying Albert Ojwang with the Kenyan flag should not be more important than his death, which came at the hands of the police themselves."

Previously, a military officer explained why it is inappropriate to bury civilians with the Kenyan flag.

He explained that the country's flag symbolises national pride and respect; therefore, burying it is seen as dishonouring this symbol.

Many countries have regulations that dictate the proper use of the flag, and violating these can lead to legal consequences and public disapproval.

He said even in military burials, the flag is not buried but is folded and given to the bereaved family.

The third reason flags are not buried is that such acts tend to offend veterans, service members, and patriotic citizens who view the flag with deep respect.

Albert's burial was held at Kabondo Kasipul constituency

In other news, the hearts of many Kenyans were moved after spotting the Manchester flag draped over the blogger's casket.

A photo from the burial showed the casket placed atop a table. The brown casket featured golden handles for carrying it.

Albert was a diehard football fan, and his club was well-represented. A Manchester United flag was also laid on the casket, and a mourner with a Red Devils jersey was spotted nearby.

Many Kenyans were touched that he was buried with the flag of the team he adored.
