Several universities have recently announced new additions to their men's basketball coaching staffs. Colorado State University Pueblo has welcomed Pueblo native Mike Ranson as an assistant coach, while the University of North Texas has hired Steve Payne as an assistant coach. Buena Vista University has named Jeff Horner as its new head coach, and Langston University has added Kevin Kaerwer as the associate head coach.

Mike Ranson's appointment at CSU Pueblo marks a return to his hometown. He previously served as the Director of Player Development and Assistant Coach at Morehead State University and as a graduate assistant coach at Murray State University. Ranson also has experience as an assistant coach at Western Colorado and as an intern with Driven Basketball, working with player development coach Phil Beckner and NBA player Damian Lillard. Ranson's father, Brad, is a celebrated figure in Pack Basketball history, adding to the significance of his return. He holds degrees from Colorado State University Pueblo and Murray State.

Steve Payne brings over 30 years of college coaching experience to North Texas. He most recently served on Daniyal Robinson’s staff at Cleveland State, where he helped guide the Vikings to three consecutive 20-win seasons. Prior to that, Payne was the head coach at Tennessee Tech for eight seasons, leading the Golden Eagles to multiple national postseason tournament berths. Payne has also coached at UMKC and Frank Phillips Junior College, among others. His career includes a stint at Northwestern State, where he coached when NSU and North Texas were conference mates.

Jeff Horner takes over as head coach at Buena Vista University after a successful tenure at Truman State University, where he compiled a 121-78 record. Horner led the Bulldogs to multiple conference titles and NCAA DII National Tournament appearances, earning GLVC Coach of the Year honors twice. A former Iowa Hawkeyes standout, Horner was named Iowa’s Mr. Basketball in 2002. His coaching experience also includes roles at Grand View University, West Des Moines Valley High School, and the University of North Dakota. He was inducted into the Iowa High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.

Kevin Kaerwer joins Langston University after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During his time at UTEP, he helped the Miners achieve three winning seasons and an appearance in the 2024 CUSA Tournament Championship. Kaerwer also has experience as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Angelo State, where he worked alongside Langston's head coach Chris Wright. Kaerwer played college basketball at Central College in Pella, Iowa, earning All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors.
