NAN reports that Maikalangu polled 51 votes to emerge winner of the primary election held on Wednesday in Abuja.

Habib Ibrahim, chairman of the AMAC electoral committee, declared Maikalangu winner and urged other aspirants to support the outcome in good faith.

Zephaniah Jisalo, minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs and APC leader in the FCT, congratulated Maikalangu on his win.

Jisalo implored those who did not make it through the primaries to accept the result and support Maikalangu for the unity and progress of the party.

In April, Maikalangu from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, adding that he joined the ruling party to sustain the delivery of democratic dividends to residents of AMAC, which is the central area council in the nation’s capital.

Speaking during his defection, the AMAC chairman said his decision was aimed at aligning the council with the centre of power for the benefit of residents.

“Since the emergence of President Bola Tinubu and the appointment of as FCT minister, we have seen renewed hope in action,” he said.

“Joining the APC is in the best interest of AMAC residents.

“We have already felt the positive impact in AMAC through federal appointments given to sons and daughters of the FCT and through projects championed by the Tinubu-led administration.”

Maikalangu thanked party delegates for their support and asked his fellow aspirants to join forces with him in the interest of the party and the people of AMAC.
