Federal Government Establishes New Institutions in Gombe

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has extended profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to two crucial bills, thereby establishing a new Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku and a Federal Orthopedic Hospital in Billiri, both situated in Gombe State. Governor Yahaya lauded the presidential approval as a clear demonstration of responsive and inclusive leadership, anticipating a lasting positive impact on the education and healthcare sectors within Gombe State and the broader North-East subregion.

These newly established institutions are poised to significantly enhance access to quality education and specialized healthcare services. Furthermore, they are expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and stimulate economic development across the state. Governor Yahaya specifically commended Hon. Ali Isa J.C. and Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed for their pivotal roles in sponsoring the bills that led to the creation of these federal institutions. He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the leadership and members of the National Assembly for facilitating the passage of the legislation, alongside all stakeholders whose advocacy and collaboration made these vital establishments a reality.

The Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku Local Government Area, provided for by the College of Education Act Amendment Bill (2025), will primarily focus on training educators specifically equipped to handle learners with special needs. This initiative is designed to address a critical nationwide gap in inclusive education by producing specialized teachers to support students with disabilities, thereby positioning Gombe as a key hub for inclusive education. The Federal Orthopedic Hospital in Billiri Local Government Area, established through the Public Hospitals Management Board Amendment Bill (2025), is mandated to offer advanced orthopedic and trauma care. This facility is anticipated to alleviate pressure on existing, often overstretched, healthcare facilities elsewhere in the country and will serve patients not only from Gombe State but also from across the North-East subregion, significantly improving regional healthcare outcomes.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya underscored that these developments align perfectly with his administration’s ongoing commitment to strengthening both the health and education sectors. He reiterated his government's readiness to provide all necessary support to ensure the smooth and timely commencement of operations for both institutions. According to Governor Yahaya, the presence of these federal institutions marks a new chapter for Gombe State, as they will complement existing state-level initiatives and further solidify Gombe’s reputation as a center of excellence in healthcare and education. He expressed continued support for President Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda' on behalf of the people of Gombe State.
