Sunyani, (Bono), June 05, GNA – Mr. Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, has urged commercial drivers and the business community to cooperate, as the Assembly decongest the Sunyani Central Business District (CD) enclave.
He said the exercise, scheduled for next week, would ease the growing vehicular and human traffic flow and bring sanity to the enclave.
Addressing a news conference in Sunyani, Mr. Agyei explained that the decongestion exercise was in line with the Assembly’s broader plan to restore order, improve accessibility, and enhance public safety at the CBD.
He said all traders occupying and selling at pedestrian walkways, unauthorized places and around the Ghana Cocoa Board building would be relocated, saying commercial drivers would also not be allowed to load passengers at unapproved areas.
“Shop and store owners who load and offload their goods must do so between 0400 hours and 0600 hours to reduce congestion and ease traffic flow”, Mr. Agyei advised, adding, “our is not to disrupt livelihoods, but to create a cleaner, more efficient, and accessible trading environment in the regional capital.”
He explained that the Assembly had already engaged traders and market women within the enclave as well as other key stakeholders, urging everybody to cooperate with the assembly to create a conducive business environment.
Mr. Agyei said the Assembly had also intensified public sensitization on the exercise, warning that they would enact and strictly enforce byelaws to keep the city clean.
