Cheryl Cole quit Britain's Got Talent role at the last minute without giving Simon Cowell a reason
Simon Cowell has disclosed that Cheryl Cole was initially in line for a judging role on Britain's Got Talent but opted out at the last minute. The music guru, who sits as head judge beside Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, and new addition KSI, explained that before Amanda joined the hit series, he had approached the singer to join the judging panel. However, she had a change of heart just a week prior to the start of filming.
As 'BGT' gears up for its 18th series premiere this Saturday, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly return as the presenters. This season also welcomes KSI, the ever-popular internet personality turned musician, as a guest judge in place of Bruno Tonioli.
In a recent chat, Simon branded Amanda, who has been with the show since it began, as the "queen of Britain's Got Talent, the Mirror reports. He praised: "She is our Britain's Got Talent queen and she deserves that crown".
Reflecting on past considerations for the judging panel, Simon revealed: "And you know what? She was an interesting booking because we'd offered the role to Cheryl Cole, as she was known in those days."A week before filming, she calls me and goes, 'I just can't do it', and wouldn't give me a reason.
