Cara Delevingne marked her return to the Cannes Film Festival this year with a dark new hairdo. The British model arrived at the premiere of “The History Of Sound” on Wednesday with inky black hair and spliced bangs.
The shaggy style, which fell just past her shoulders, drew inspiration from the current wet hair trend, appearing as if she’d soaked it moments before. Meanwhile, her fringe was slicked flat on her forehead and framed around her face. Delevingne often works with celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak, though it’s not certain whether she’s behind this look.
To continue with the gothic aesthetic, her makeup included a sculpted brow, thick strokes of black eyeliner on her lid and in her waterline, dusty purple and orange shadow in her crease, brown lip liner and shimmery gloss. Her complexion was, for the most part, even with touches of cool-toned contour and pink blush.
For her fashion, Delevingne opted for a burgundy gown with tiny sleeves and a black tulle petticoat that peaked out as she moved across the red carpet.
Her hair transformation comes a few weeks after she attended the world premiere of “Ocean With David Attenborough” at The Royal Festival Hall in London. There, she boasted long, dirty-blond locks and brown roots.
For the 2024 LACMA Art and Film Gala in Los Angeles, she debuted a fresh set of micro bangs akin to Audrey Hepburn’s signature look, except hers had subtle honey highlights.
A runway muse to the likes of the late Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel and Stella McCartney, Delevingne’s been changing up her style to honor major pop culture moments for years.
In 2022, she spoke to WWD about her ability to assume different sartorial characters and versions of herself while modeling for Lagerfeld before he died in 2019.
“There was so much to do with playing a part. I think that was the first time in fashion I was really allowed to play these different roles,” she said. “He (Lagerfeld) taught me so much more about fashion in terms of possibilities.”
Her first runway show after a two-year hiatus was for the September 2024 L’Oréal Paris Le Défilé Show in Paris, celebrating female empowerment and diversity within the beauty industry. Here, Delevingne donned shoulder-length hair in her typical balayage coloring.
