North End manager Paul Heckingbottom is currently serving a touchline ban.
However, stand-in coach Stuart McCall stood resolutely against Burnley’s request, resulting in CJ Egan-Riley throwing the ball in his direction, which earned him sarcastic applause from the coach.
Osmajic was finally substituted in the 77th minute, having been followed off the pitch by Hannibal six minutes prior.
Preston insiders reported that Osmajic seemed distressed and appeared close to tears when he approached referee Andrew Kitchen after the match.
Both Osmajic and Hannibal were called by the official, who plans to report the incident to the FA for further investigation.
The Montenegrin striker conveyed that he has black teammates and friends in Preston’s squad, stressing that he would never insult them.
The FA is expected to question both parties regarding the alleged racist comment.
In October, Osmajic received an eight-match suspension following an incident where he bit Blackburn’s Owen Beck.
This prior incident took place during Preston’s 0-0 draw against Rovers in September.
Osmajic was issued only a yellow card during that match and continued to play for Preston in their following two games.
However, the FA launched an investigation leading to him being charged subsequently.
As a consequence, Osmajic missed his club’s next eight matches and was fined £15,000.
