'Brilliant' schoolboy wins gold at UK fencing championship - Yahoo Sport
A schoolboy has won gold at the 2025 British Youth Fencing Championship.
St Joseph’s College Year 8 student Carson, 13, claimed the top spot in the under-14 Épée event, competing against 78 of the UK's top young fencers.
His journey began over a decade ago in Hong Kong, where he started fencing at just four years old.
Guided by Leung Ka Ming, a former Olympic épée fencer, Carson developed strong fundamentals in movement, precision, and discipline.
As he grew older, fencing became a major part of his life, participating in 10 to 15 competitions a year.
Despite setbacks, the camaraderie of his club kept him motivated.
Carson made the switch to épée just before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the disruptions, he remained committed, placing eighth out of more than 200 competitors at the Hong Kong Inter-Primary Boys Open Épée at the age of 11.
After moving to the UK, he won his first British competition, the England Youth Championship 2023.
Currently, Carson trains at Luso International Fencing Club in Maidenhead.

He attends three sessions a week and competes regularly across the country, continuously refining his strategies, footwork, and attack plans with his coaches after each event.
St Joseph’s College said: "Carson’s success is a reflection of his hard work, perseverance, and passion—and we couldn’t be prouder.
"He’s not only a brilliant athlete but also a fantastic representative of our school community."
Carson's journey in fencing began when he picked up a sword at just four years old in Hong Kong.
