Brad Pitt Breaks Silence on Finalizing 8-Year Divorce With Ex-Wife Angelina Jolie: 'Fruition'
broke his silence on finalizing his divorce from ex-wife after their intense eight-year legal battle.
The F1 actor, 61, was seemingly unfazed while addressing his divorce during a May 27, 2025, interview with GQ, and revealed that he didn’t “think it was that major of a thing.”
“Just something coming to fruition. Legally,” Brad told the outlet.
Brad and Angelina, 49, ended last year by finalizing their divorce on December 31, 2024. The Eternals actress filed for divorce from Brad in September 2016. The couple shares kids , 23, , 21, , 20, , 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16.
The Babylon actor has since moved on with girlfriend, who was previously married to The Vampire Diaries actor Paul Wesley. Brad and Ines, 32, confirmed their relationship in September 2024 when she walked alongside him on the red carpet at the premiere of Wolfs at the Venice International Film Festival. Although their romance has progressively gotten serious over the years, a source previously told In Touch that Brad is nervous to walk down the aisle again.
“When marriage comes up, Brad changes the subject, or he’ll make jokes about his bad track record,” the insider exclusively told In Touch in a story published on April 30. “It’s clear he’s been seriously scarred by his divorce from Angelina and is gun shy about getting married again.”
Brad and Angelina’s separation quickly turned nasty after she filed for divorce in September 2016, after more than one year of marriage. The former couple legally battled it out over child custody and an alleged fight that occurred on a private jet days before Angelina filed the paperwork.
In 2021, a judge ruled in favor of Brad and granted the Bullet Train actor joint custody over their kids. However, it was reported that some of the children weren’t too happy about the decision.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
“[Maddox] doesn’t use Pitt as his last name on documents that aren’t legal and instead uses Jolie,” an insider told Us Weekly at the time. “Maddox wants to legally change his last name to Jolie, which Angelina has said she doesn’t support.”
In June 2024, In Touch obtained Shiloh’s petition to remove “Pitt” as her last name, which she filed one month prior. Later that month, a second source exclusively told In Touch that Brad was “blindsided” by Shiloh’s decision, but it wasn’t shocking to him.
“He feels that Angie has slowly but surely turned their kids against him. She absolutely influenced their decisions to distance themselves from their dad,” the second source revealed at the time, noting that Shiloh “did not give her dad the heads up about her decision.”
A judge granted her request that August, and the teen now goes by Shiloh Jolie.
Meanwhile, In Touch obtained paperwork from a police report in 2016 after Angelina claimed that Brad allegedly got physical with her and the kids inside an aircraft.
In the filing, it was noted that Brad allegedly “choked one of the children and struck another in the face” and “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.”
Brad denied all allegations and Angelina dropped the lawsuit in 2024.
