A video showing how the young man was coldly shot by a policeman as he tried to sell masks during mandanano by Gen Z broke many hearts. Many rooted for Kariuki to get healed, but sadly, he died after spending about two weeks at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

As he offered his condolences, Ruto did not just offer words, but he also offered KSh 1 million to the family, which is grappling with a KSh 3.6 million bill.

Ruto sent the money through several Members of Parliament (MPs), among them Peter Irungu Kahungi.

"Today, I visited the home of the late Boniface Mwangi Kariuki to offer my heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with his grieving family following the tragic police shooting that took his young life," he said.
"I was joined by Hon. Betty N Maina (Murang’a Woman Representative), Hon Wamaua (MP Maragua), and the area MCA, Hon Moses Muchiri. Also present was a representative from the office of PS Raymond Omollo. As leaders, we assisted with burial preparations," he added.

According to Irungu, Ruto is committed to ensuring justice is served. He said that one of the key concerns raised is the family’s inability to record a statement with the police in the pursuit of justice.

"The representative from PS Omollo’s office committed to following up immediately to ensure this process is facilitated without further delay," said Irungu.
"Boniface’s death is a painful reminder of the urgent need for accountability in our security agencies. We will not rest until justice is done. May his soul rest in eternal peace," he added.

Kamau Lawrence:

"But I thought familia ilisema inahitaji financial support to give their kin a decent send-off and not those motivational speeches you are giving so I think the leaders did as per the family request."

Mirií Njuguna Babake Msoo:

"Shame on you Mt Kenya leaders mnafulafha kutumwa na a million na president sasa mkimaliza hapo mwingine akufe mtapata kwingine kwa kupeleka one million mkiuza serikali."

Sa Mu El:

"One million compared to life. I choose life because it always exposes you to greatness."

Thungu Kimita Ngaimbere:

"Should citizens die in the hands of their own servants for the government to give them funds for burial arrangements."

Ruth James Mwangi:

"May God bless Hon. Peter Irungu Kihungi, leaders and whoever have ever supported and gave the family of Boniface a shoulder to lean on, on this overwhelming times. To the family of Boniface, May God wipe your tears, take heart, with God all will be well."

Kariuki's death left a devastating blow of the KSh 3.6 million hospital bill.

The government, however, claimed that his bill stands at KSh 815,805, and Health CS Aden Duale said other patients were also injured during demos.

The difference in figures left many confused.
