Liver cirrhosis is a serious condition where the healthy tissue of the liver is replaced by scar tissue. This scarring blocks the flow of blood through the liver and makes it hard for the organ to work properly. According to Dr Reema Kashiv, Senior Physician, Noble Hospital, Pune, it does not develop overnight. This condition is the result of chronic liver damage. Chronic alcohol misuse, hepatitis B and C infections, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and autoimmune liver illnesses are among the top common causes.
Cirrhosis can be caused by many things, including long-term hepatitis, alcohol abuse, and autoimmune diseases like the one Sana has. The Global Burden of Disease study found that about 11.2 crore people in the world had compensated cirrhosis. The study also showed that this illness caused nearly 13.2 lakh deaths in women and 8.83 lakh deaths in men around the world.

Treatment depends on the cause and how advanced the disease is. Doctors may suggest medications, lifestyle changes, and in severe cases, a liver transplant. For autoimmune hepatitis, immunotherapy and steroids are often used to control the immune system.
