Random humans are visited by mysterious floating spirits nicknamed angels, who issue a chilling decree of when that person will be visited by the demons who take their soul to hell. The series encompasses a few years and follows two or three characters as they try to understand the angels and resist the cult that's evolved alongside them.

The Heremetic Order of the Blue Rose is an ancient, secret society that teaches the art of magic. This series begins when the protagonist, Jack Morton, joins them. By day, he's a simple college student, but at night, he's a powerful practitioner and demon hunter.

As Jack continues to learn the basics of demon hunting, he also learns about a secret war between werewolves and the users of the dark arts that's been going on for centuries, along with his own family's involvement in certain historic events. Most of the series was filmed on the UBC campus in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest fit the tone of this show perfectly.

Devilman Crybaby is an adaptation of the popular manga Devilman, which goes all the way back to the 1970s. The modern series updates the vintage look but adapts the same characters and storyline into a contemporary setting. The series, like the manga on which it was based, is notoriously visceral to the point of being nihilistic.
