The Benue State government said it has developed and adopted a comprehensive power sector policy aimed at guiding energy development and extending electricity access to its citizens.

The Commissioner for Power, Renewable Energy and Transport, Barrister Omale Omale, made this known while speaking with journalists in Makurdi during a press interaction to mark his 50th birthday.

Omale said the policy, which serves as a blueprint for the expansion of power and energy services across the state, represents a major stride by the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia towards infrastructural transformation.

He said, “Benue now has a clearly defined power sector policy and a compass to drive energy access and power extension. Already, we have installed over 7,000 streetlights in Makurdi and we are looking to replicate this progress in other local government areas.”

Speaking on his personal journey, Omale expressed deep satisfaction with his life so far, stating that even though he hasn’t achieved every goal he set for himself at a younger age, he remains fulfilled and grateful.

“At 50, I feel very fulfilled. Growing up in a military environment shaped my discipline. I had projected that I would retire at this age as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria or a professor, but life took a different path. Politics came as a necessary distraction. Today, I see this appointment as Commissioner as a peak of recognition in my trade,” he said.
