Bawumia didn't run away from the economy - Nana Akomea insists
Vice Chairman of the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Team, Nana Akomea
The Vice Chairman of the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Team, Nana Akomea has defended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, against claims that he distanced himself from economic issues due to Ghana’s macroeconomic difficulties.
Speaking on GHOne TV‘s State of Affairs with Lantam Papanko, the Vice Chairman argued that Dr. Bawumia never abandoned discussions on the economy but rather remained steadfast in addressing the nation’s financial challenges.
“In today’s world, the ten biggest companies are digital businesses. So, you can’t downplay digitalization,” he said, emphasizing that the government’s focus on digital transformation is essential for national development.
Nana Akomea also accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of previously downplaying digitalization but now attempting to claim credit for its progress. “The NDC has started making noise about digitalization, but let’s not forget that they ridiculed it during the elections. They even tried to use the macroeconomic challenges to throw Bawumia under the bus,” he said.
He acknowledged the difficulties in Ghana’s economy but maintained that Bawumia remained committed to his economic responsibilities despite the tough circumstances.
NPP government’s digitalization agenda, which Dr. Bawumia has been a central figure in has often been criticized for what they describe as economic mismanagement. However, his campaign team Vice Chairman insists that he has played a vital role in laying the foundation for a more digital economy.
