The upcoming Kampung Kampus, planned for completion in October 2025, will serve as a "living classroom" – a dynamic space where children, families, and educators get to experience sustainability through immersive, hands-on learning. Funds will go toward site development, sustainability consultations, reclaimed materials, and educational resources.

"We believe education empowers children to become transformative contributors to a better world. This year's Babilou Cares event helps them understand waste reduction and the role of recycling in protecting the planet," said Rowena Mark Ramos, Head of Curriculum, Babilou Family Singapore.

Since 2022, Babilou Family, through Babilou Cares, has supported a social cause every year. These have included environmental conservation (Plan(t) the Future, 2022), supporting the Children's Cancer Foundation and advocating inclusion (Embrace Inclusive Education, 2023), and donating to World Vision's global child health initiatives (Feed the Future, 2024).

This year's theme, #ZeroWasteFuture, reinforces Babilou's mission to nurture eco-consciousness among its young learners.

On 30 May, all 61 Babilou Family centres hosted sustainability-focused events, bringing families together for workshops and fundraisers. In the lead-up, centres ran a series of pre-event activities, engaging children in creative and educational experiences to promote sustainable practices. The activities included donating food items to The Food Bank Singapore, donation drives, upcycling everyday items, and 12 centres participating in the SembEnviro School Recycling League.

These efforts aim to build lifelong habits of mindful consumption and environmental responsibility and engage children in playing their part for a cleaner and greener Earth.

About Ground-Up Initiative (GUI)

Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) is a non-profit society founded in 2008 in Singapore, dedicated to nurturing a more sustainable and gracious society by reconnecting people with nature, self, and others. Their new campus will serve as a living classroom — a space where children, youths, families, and educators can engage in hands-on learning, cultivate grounded values, and experience the kampung spirit.

GUI is raising funds to build this campus through the Ray of Hope platform. All support received will go directly toward key development costs, including professional fees (including Architectural, Civil & Structure Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Landscape Architectural & Green Mark Consulting), authority submissions, site works, demolition (to reclaim materials for reuse), furniture and fittings, equipment, and sustainability assessments.

Together, we can create a space that will inspire generations to live with greater care — for the Earth, for others, and for themselves. Every contribution brings us closer to building a home for learning, healing, and community-building in today's fast-paced world.
