Australia

Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia and sometimes known as "Down Under", is a country in the Southern Hemisphere, situated in the geographical region of Oceania and comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is the world's sixth-largest country by total area and is the driest, oldest, flattest, and smallest continent. Neighboring Asian-Pacific countries include Indonesia, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea to the north; the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia to the northeast; and New Zealand to the southeast.

Many species of wildlife roam all over Australia, including kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, emus, wallabies, cockatoos, kookaburras, echidnas, Tasmanian devils, cassowaries, frilled lizards, dingoes, and platypi.

Operating from 19882006 was Walt Disney Animation Australia working on several episodes of several television series, as well as several direct-to-video/DVD movies.

The Australian edition of the Disney Channel was launched on June 8, 1996.

Starting in December 2018, a dozen Disney shows and movies (including Marvel and Lucasfilm), have been streaming on Australian streaming company Stan. In November 2019, many shows released under the Disney, Marvel, or Lucasfilm banner were taken down; Disney movies released under the Touchstone Pictures banner still remain. However, by December 2021, all Disney properties (including Fox) had been taken down.

In 2019, Pixar Putt, a traveling pop-up miniature golf course based on the Pixar filmography, began touring the country before being exported to the United States.

Principal photography on the Star Wars films Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) also occurred here here in Fox Studios Australia.

In Lost, Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 was heading from Sydney to Los Angeles but crashed along the way.

When former U.S. President Donald Trump tried to brand the Disney owned ABC as "fake news", he accidentally branded the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as "fake news".[1]

Nine Network Australia produced their own version of the Disney-made America's Funniest Home Videos entitled "Australia's Funniest Home Videos".

On October 10, 2022, Fox Studios Australia, formerly Fox Studios Backlot, dropped the "Fox" branding and was officially renamed Disney Studios Australia.
