President Tinubu to Return to Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Nigeria today after trips to France and London. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed this in a post on X. Tinubu had departed for Paris, France, on April 2 for a “short working visit.” During his time abroad, he was expected to appraise his administration’s midterm performance and assess key milestones, as well as review the progress of ongoing reforms and engage in strategic planning ahead of his administration’s second anniversary.

The President's absence led to criticism from opposition figures, particularly concerning prevailing insecurity. However, the Presidency clarified that President Tinubu remained fully engaged with Nigeria’s governance while in Europe. Onanuga stated that his absence was temporary and in line with the communicated timeframe of approximately two weeks, with a return following the conclusion of the Easter holiday.

The Presidency also acknowledged the concerns of Nigerians, reiterating the President’s commitment to his duties and the continued effective functioning of his administration under his leadership. Tinubu also extended Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and worldwide, reflecting on the values of sacrifice, redemption, love, and hope embodied in the celebration, reaffirming his commitment to delivering a "Renewed Hope" for a better, more just, and prosperous Nigeria.

While the President was away, communities in Benue and Plateau recorded violent attacks that led to the deaths of over 50 people.
