Apple's New AI Coding Language Model Is Here
Apple has released a new AI model on Hugging Face that is designed to write code out of order, rather than the usual left-to-right, top top-to-bottom approach.
The idea here is that it will also be able to work on multiple chunks of code simultaneously, improving performance as a result.
The new model, called DiffuCoder-7B-cpGRPO, has a long and complicated explainer for you to read over on Hugging Face, albeit a rather dense read at that.
The new model isn’t one that most people will ever interact with. But for those who can make use of it, there is a chance for it to improve things in a number of ways. Via a number of features, it could allow for faster code generation, which is good for a variety of applications.
There’s also a good explainer of what the new model could offer over at 9to5Mac, but the oversimplified gist is that the new model will be able to build on top of a paper called “DiffuCoder: Understanding and Improving Masked Diffusion Models for Code Generation” which discusses a diffusion-first approach to code generation.
The crux of the matter is the model’s ability to generate code out of order, which is where the potential performance increases kick in.
It’s unclear as-yet how this will turn into features that people can use, but developers will no doubt already be working on that part.
