The meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held on Monday has fixed July 24 as the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to nominate a fresh National Chairman of the party.

Speaking with journalists after an emergency meeting of the APC held at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja, its Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, said the July 24 NEC meeting will afford the party to nominate a new Chairman for the party.

According to him, a notice for the NEC meeting has already been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Arise News reports that National Chairman of APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje resigned his position last week on health grounds, while his Deputy from the North, Alli Bukar Dalori earlier took over on Monday.

Fuanter said, “We have accepted the resignation of Ganduje based on health grounds. We also endorsed his replacement by Alli Bukar Dalori.

“We also discussed preparations for bye-elections and gave approval of the NEC meeting for July 24 here in APC Secretariat.”

Speaking on the controversies surrounding the primary for the FCT Elections, he said the party received the reports but did not give details on the outcome of the petitions filed by complaints over alleged irregularities.

“We can’t tell you for now whether to repeat the elections based on complaints”, Fuanter said.
