APC chieftain Jesutega Onokpasa is dead
Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent chieftain of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and political commentator, has passed away.
The news of his death was confirmed on Tuesday by Pastor Okezie Atani, a pro-APC advocate, who announced the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Atani wrote.
A tribute issued by Renewed Hope United Kingdom, a support group affiliated with the APC, described Onokpasa’s death as “a profound loss to the Nigerian political and legal landscape.”
“His contributions as a member of the APC Publicity Committee and the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2023 reflected his unwavering commitment to his party and the nation,” the statement read.
“Onokpasa’s voice, whether in support or critique, was a vital part of Nigeria’s democratic conversation, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
A trained lawyer and public affairs analyst, Onokpasa was widely known for his regular media engagements in defence of the APC and President Bola Tinubu. His articulate advocacy and political insights earned him recognition across the country’s political spectrum.
He is survived by his wife and children.
As of Tuesday, funeral arrangements had yet to be announced.
