by definition; Burrell loved color and infused her natural quirkiness into the two-bedroom’s decor. According to a 2024 interview with Page Six, in which Burrell gave an inside look into her home, the chef hired an architect to measure and render the space, but ultimately went with her vision for the space’s interiors.

“When I was looking for an apartment, I said to the realtor, ‘I want somewhere that is quirky and sort of old…somewhere that has good bones and is not cookie-cutter,’” she told the publication. “Everything here is a little crooked, and I think that suits me just as well.”

The cozy space she shared with her husband, Stuart Claxton, and two cats features a primary bedroom complete with an ensuite bathroom, a main living space that's drenched in sunlight thanks to an abundance of large windows, and an outdoor terrace with views of the city’s elevated subway lines. The living and dining areas, as well as the kitchen, coexist in an open-concept format, which Burrell made beautifully cohesive with a farmhouse aesthetic.

“When you come down that beautiful hallway, you end up in what I call my urban farmhouse,” Burnell told NBC's Open House during an intimate house tour in 2023. “This is my land of happy and joy.”

There are pops of vibrant color throughout the space; orange patterned shades adorn the windows, the kitchen cabinets are a wash of green (inspired by the sitcom Friends), and various pictures are in mismatched frames. Burnell points out the tri-room’s eclectic chandelier, explaining, “I convinced my husband, Stuart, that we should get this because when he saw it, he said, ‘Oh! That kind of looks like the thing that Superman came to Earth in,’ and I said, ‘Whatever you need to tell yourself.’”

The dining area features a bookshelf that has been lovingly stocked with Burnell’s library of cookbooks, as well as an orange statement wall and bar. But the true statement of the chef’s home is, unsurprisingly, her kitchen. Complete with stainless steel appliances, the gourmet setup also features a Miele oven, a rustic butcher-block kitchen peninsula, a large refrigerator, and a pasta pot filler.

“I just wanted to have every sort of bell and whistle you can have in a restaurant kitchen, but feel at home and comfortable,” she told Open House TV. “The kitchen is kind of the center of every home, but in my home it’s really the heart and beat.”
