Angel Reese Facing Major Backlash for What She Said About Caitlin Clark
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has made it clear that her impact on women's basketball should be acknowledged. After defeating Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023 NCAA National Championship Game, Reese sparked weeks of national coverage.
The former LSU forward infamously mocked Clark with the "you can't see me" gesture in the closing moments of that game. Clark's Hawkeyes then defeated Reese's Tigers in the 2024 Regional Final, adding another chapter to this budding rivalry that has only grown in popularity.
Ahead of the May 17 WNBA season opener between Chicago and the Indiana Fever, Reese's previous Clark comments are resurfacing.
Last year, Reese said the reason people are watching women's basketball is not just because of Clark, but her as well. Asked about these comments during Chicago's media day, Reese simply responded, "next question."
Fans were quick to call out Reese for what she said about Clark last year, and now her refusal to address.
: Angel Reese went from ”The reason why we are watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person, it’s because of me too, and I want you all to realize that.” To when asked about her statements a year later, she said next question. https://t.co/dLn0UgZfN0 pic.twitter.com/dAxBMQcSBh

"I promise i will be off of Angel's case for a minute once this season starts cause the constant [expletive] on her i find annoying too," a fan began. "BUT... She 100% has brought all of this on herself. They are literally asking her about something SHE said."
"Why would she say next question you the one who said last year??" asked one. "Man this why I can’t stand Angel Reese she doesn’t take any accountability at all. It’s just so embarrassing."
"No fn way this her take now," a fan wrote. "Told ya all she wanted to take credit for what Clark did and profit off it. That was directed towards endorsement companies not the fans. Fans all knew what was up."
The Reese backlash did not stop there, as posts have continued pouring in.
"Guess she didn’t want to lie this time," one said.
"she wanted the credit, not the conversation lmaoo," another post read.
"she saw those seats in preseason," a fan joked of Chicago's small crowd size.
