Amityville house for sale only accessible by boat, comes with adjacent property
A house in Amityville that is only accessible by boat, along with an adjacent property across the water, are on the market for $489,000. Taxes are $12,142.
"It's a niche property," said listing agent JoAnn Spatola, of Realty Connect USA. "And it's two properties for one price."
The house is located on a small island (called Enoch Island) on Amityville Creek. It contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are seven lots on the island but only two homes there, Spatola said, and this home was built around 1985.
"The gentleman who built it was the mayor of Amityville at one time," Spatola said.

Featuring cedar siding, a pointed roof, hardwood floors and a covered front porch, "the best way to describe it is, it's a vintage Fire Island home," said the listing agent. "When you're there, you feel like you're on Fire Island."
The house is connected to the sewer system and includes an electric water heater, said Spatola.
The listing includes another property across the water, which is located on Riverside Avenue. The lot is 50-by-67 feet and includes a shed with running water, electricity, 50 feet of bulkhead and a driveway. The homeowner would also have a private dock space and access to both sides of the river around Enoch Island, Spatola said.

Getting back and forth from the Enoch Island property takes a minute or two by boat, Spatola said. The homeowner would have to adjust to this lifestyle change: "They have to travel across the water to get back and forth to the mainland," the agent said. "So [potential buyers] have tried to figure out, if they have to get to work, this is what the commute is like."
The property is in the Amityville Union Free School District.
