Amazon Announces Plans To Unveil New Alexa Devices in 2025 - RetailWire

Amazon has announced that it will unveil a whole new lineup of Alexa devices in 2025.

Bloomberg reports that, in an interview with Bloomberg Television, CEO Andy Jassy stated that companion devices for the artificially intelligent version of the Alexa voice assistant will be released in the fall.

He said the new gadgets, as well as current hardware that will receive the upcoming Alexa+ software update sooner, will go beyond answering trivia questions to assist consumers in completing activities such as hiring someone to repair an oven.

The redesign of Alexa, Amazon’s most important consumer electronics franchise, took longer than anticipated because engineers sought to incorporate artificial intelligence into software that was not originally built to generate responses on the fly.

In an extensive interview, Jassy stated that a proposed Biden-era law limiting the sale of artificial intelligence chips to countries such as Israel and the United Arab Emirates could have unexpected repercussions.

Without revisions to the proposed rule, he stated, “we’re going to basically give up that business and relationships to other countries who can provide those chips.”

A standout in the new Amazon lineup, however, included the Alexa+.

Alexa+ will be able to send texts, provide recipes, and send invitations. According to reports, the enhanced voice assistant can gather data from various sources, including emails and calendars. The new Alexa will also collaborate with apps like Uber to book a ride or make vacation plans through sites like Tripadvisor.

“Alexa+ learns from you and the more you use it, the more personalized it gets — understanding everything from your favorite entertainment to your family’s dietary preferences, allergies, and weekly traditions,” Amazon said in a statement.

The retail giant also announced that the assistant can review and answer questions regarding Ring camera footage, analyze and understand PDF documents, and read handwritten notes. Alexa+ can even navigate to a specific scene in a Prime Video movie and generate custom music using the Suno app.

The improved voice assistant’s effectiveness in real-world households remains to be tested. While the demos were impressive, Amazon did not let event attendees use the technology to its full potential, and the demonstrations were reportedly well-choreographed.
