Alleged defamation: Natasha's lawyers confirm receipt of notice of charges

The legal firm of West Idahosa, SAN & Co., has confirmed receiving a notice from the Director of Prosecution at the Federal High Court, Abuja, regarding a three-count charge filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Federal Government.

West-Idahosa SAN & Co., said it has been defending the embattled Senator in matters of public interest.

The law firm, in a statement signed by Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa, SAN, noted that the notice, dated Friday, May 23, 2025, mentioned allegations that the Kogi Cemtral Senator made damaging imputations against the person of Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate.

It added that the charges stemmed from statements allegedly made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, which the prosecutors claimed were intended to harm the reputation of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

“We received the court notice this afternoon on behalf of our client, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“The charges leveled against her are rooted in alleged defamatory statements against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.”

West-Idahosa reiterated the legal team’s readiness to confront the charges with due diligence and respect for the rule of law.

“We shall take all necessary legal steps to defend our client. We intend to adequately prepare with all relevant facts and present same before the court during the trial,” West-Idahosa said.
