All Saints Seek Divine Intervention
All Saints Embu, the reigning national and East Africa rugby 15s champions, are set to defend their title at the Brookside Secondary Schools National Term One games in Mombasa. Having made a significant impact since their first appearance in 2023, the team is determined to maintain their winning streak.
Coach Benson Mwenda emphasized the high stakes involved, stating, "We’ve had to put in extra work because there is so much in this for us. Our two trophies are at stake and so we can’t afford to make even the slightest of mistakes at any level of competition." He expressed confidence in the team's preparation and ability to overcome the departure of seven key players from last year's squad.
Key players to watch include winger Emmanuel Kapondo, centre Peter Otieno, flyhalf Josphat Karanja, and hooker Simon Gitire. Captain Emmanuel Kapondo is expected to lead the team in their quest for a second consecutive title.
All Saints will begin their title defense in Group A against Serani Secondary School, Upper Hill, and Mang’u High School. Mwenda acknowledged the competitiveness of their pool, stating, "Our pool is fair and we hope to play well in the preliminaries and top it. However, we can’t take any chances because all teams are a threat to our ambitions and so I believe that the best team will win."
Other contenders in Group B include Vihiga Boys High School, Friends Bwake Boys Secondary School, Kisii School, and Marafa Secondary School, adding to the competition for All Saints Embu.
