Ntim Fordjour walks out of live TV, threatens to release 'bombshells'

Accra, Ghana – The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, ignited a firestorm of controversy after abruptly walking out of a live television interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile program on Saturday, April 6, 2025. The incident has since gone viral, sparking heated debate over journalistic ethics, political accountability, and allegations of impropriety involving potential drug trafficking and money laundering at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Following his departure from the Newsfile set, Rev. Ntim Fordjour took to social media platform X to vehemently criticize the show's host, Samson Ayenini. The MP accused Ayenini of unprofessional conduct and of fabricating messages to smear his reputation. “Samson Ayenini, your producer has denied sending you those ‘fabricated messages’. So inform Ghanaians where you manufactured those smear messages you derogatorily read on your show,” Ntim Fordjour wrote. He further questioned the ethics of journalism, demanding to know the source of the alleged fabricated messages, stating, “Where lies professionalism and ethics in journalism? Samson, these are the messages viewers sent onto #Newsfile. Where from the deliberately fabricated smear messages you read? None can be found in your feed.”

Video footage of the incident reveals an animated Rev. Ntim Fordjour, visibly agitated and issuing what appear to be veiled threats. “We are raising matters and you are (sic)... I’m waiting for them to commit themselves… when I release the bombshells (sics),” he is heard saying in the video. Samson Ayenini, the Newsfile host, can be heard responding, “Producers, why did you give him the messages? Shouldn’t you give them to me?” Amidst the commotion, an unidentified voice attempts to mediate, emphasizing the gravity of the situation: “Reverend, this is a national issue, it is not a partisan issue.”

The controversy stems from allegations made by Rev. Ntim Fordjour at a press conference on April 1, 2025. In his capacity as the Minority's Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, the MP claimed that two flights – an air ambulance and a private jet – may have been implicated in drug trafficking or money laundering activities. He specifically cited Air MED flight L823 AM, which he alleged landed in Ghana on March 20 and remained for five days without any documented record of transporting a patient. These serious accusations prompted swift action from President John Mahama, who directed security agencies to collaborate fully with Rev. Ntim Fordjour.

President Mahama ordered security agencies to “immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.” The President also emphasized the nation's stance on drug trafficking, stating that Ghana maintains “a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.” He instructed all security agencies to prioritize the investigation and address the matter with urgency.

The public awaits further developments as the investigation unfolds, with many questioning the MP's abrupt departure from the Newsfile interview and the validity of his allegations. The incident has raised critical questions about transparency, accountability, and the role of the media in reporting on sensitive issues of national security.
