Alicia Silverstone deals with an obsessed lover in the steamy first trailer for Pretty Girl, shared exclusively with PEOPLE.

In it, the Clueless alum plays a successful executive opposite costar Karl Glusman as a younger lover who takes his obsession too far.

Silverstone's Sophie and Glusman's Elliot become entangled quickly in a hot affair, with her whisking him off to international locales and having steamy meetups all over the place.

But when Sophie begins to distance herself, saying the two are in "different places in their lives," darkness overshadows their initially passionate relationship.

Silverstone says the Justin Kelly–directed film intrigued her with its "slow-burn intensity."

"I was drawn to the challenge of this role and the genre — it immediately brought to mind classics like Unfaithful and Body Heat," says Silverstone, 48. "The script had that similar slow-burn intensity, emotional complexity and provocativeness."

"It was also a real gift to reunite with Justin Kelly, who directed me in King Cobra, and I was excited to work alongside Karl Glusman," she adds. "This project felt like the perfect storm of story, collaboration and creative risk."

Silverstone is also set to soon reprise her Clueless role of Cher Horowitz in a sequel series for Peacock. Silverstone celebrated the new project on Instagram April 17: “Totally buggin’… in the best way,” she wrote alongside images from Clueless.

Plot details for the series are unknown, but Variety reports that it is a follow-up to the movie. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, is involved as an executive producer, alongside Silverstone and producer Robert Lawrence.

Pretty Thing arrives in select theaters and on VOD July 4.
