Ferdinand Omanyala Sets New Record at Atlanta City Games

Ferdinand Omanyala won the men's 150m race at the Atlanta City Games, setting a new African record of 14.70 seconds, surpassing his previous record of 14.89 seconds from the same event in 2023. The race was initially anticipated as a showdown between Omanyala and Noah Lyles, but Lyles withdrew due to a tight ankle injury. Alexander Ogando was disqualified for a false start, further clearing Omanyala's path to victory. Terrence Jones finished second with 14.93 seconds, and Matthew Boling came in third with 15.15 seconds. The world record for the 150m is held by Usain Bolt at 14.35 seconds.

In the women's 150m race, Favour Ofili of Nigeria set a new world record with a time of 15.85 seconds, becoming the first woman to run the distance in under 16 seconds. She broke the previous record of 16.23 seconds held by Shaunae Miller-Uibo since 2018. Tamari Davis finished second with a time of 16.14 seconds.

Akani Simbine won the men's 100m race with a time of 9.86 seconds, though the time will not be officially recognized due to a high wind reading (2.3m/s). In the women's 100m, Cambrea Sturgis edged out McKenzie Long, both clocking 10.98 seconds, with Sturgis finishing ahead by six thousandths of a second.

Separately, Faith Cherotich won the women's 3000m steeplechase at the Doha Diamond League, defeating Olympic champion Winfred Yavi.
